  FAQ’s

For whom is Glencairn suitable?
Glencairn has been specially designed for the more independent individual, who does not need intensive nursing care, but who wants to free themselves from the burden of running their own home. Residents find that with more time and energy, and all the wonderful top class facilities and numerous social opportunities, they enjoy a new lease of life.

Where is Glencairn located?
On the south side of Edinburgh, in a quiet residential area called ‘The Grange’.

What does the Concierge do?
They will get to know you and your personal likes and dislikes, arranging anything you want to do. From a bridge party at Glencairn to a trip to a Morningside café; from a day out down the coast to a cruise in the Bahamas.

How much does it cost?
With less intensive support than a nursing home, costs can be surprisingly affordable, offering excellent value. Please get in touch for our latest rates.

What are your facilities?
Our free of charge facilities include; hot tub, boules, exercise bike, massage chair, off street parking, concierge service and a range of in house events. In each room there is an en-suite bathroom, TV with DVD player, a safe for valuables and tea/coffee making facilities. Larger rooms have a small fridge. We have retained the following services at an additional cost; Hairdressing, Chiropody, Physiotherapy, aromatherapy, reflexology. Every room has a telephone at additional cost.

What is your attitude towards pets?
So long as the other residents give their approval, we accept house-trained and neutered pets. All pets are the responsibility of the owner.

What personal belongings can I bring with me?
Whatever you feel is appropriate. Any soft furnishings you bring must be fire retardant, and any electrical equipment needs to be PA tested for safety.

What if I become ill?
We have links with the local GP Surgery and we can arrange nursing support for a short-term illness and end of life care. For a long term prognosis, alternative accommodation can be arranged in order for you to continue to receive the appropriate level of care.
